Department of Materials and Systems Engineering HANBAT NATIONAL UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOOL OF INDUSTRY

Department Office Location and Phone Number: Room 1085, N8 Building (Tel. 821-1268)

Department Overview and Objectives

  • The Department of Materials and Systems Engineering aims to cultivate excellent engineers with adaptability and creativity who can play a pivotal role in material/system design, development, and production. To this end, students are provided engineering education that equips them with overall knowledge and application of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and materials engineering in line with the needs of industrial sites.
  • The discipline of material and systems engineering covers the basic properties and applications of materials as well as the production and processing technologies involved in the production and application of materials. The department provides students with general knowledge of mechanics, electricity and electronics, control and instrumentation, and materials. In addition, the department is developing in-depth courses for graduates to immediately adjust to the field as soon as they enter the workforce, and is helping students cultivate global competence based on communication and teamwork skills, foreign language skills, and sound work ethics, in addition to technical skills.
  • The major research areas of the Department of Materials and Systems Engineering include nanomaterials, structural material bonding, electronic packaging, system automation, micromachining, and thin film processing, and other fields from fundamental to practical technologies.

Focuses of Education and Research

  • Fostering Welding Manpower
    - Welding-related skills and technical training is provided to foster manpower in related fields and employment in the defense industry and shipbuilding companies is promoted through direct exchanges with industrial companies. The department is also building an accredited test and inspection system by establishing the welding-related standards in Korea in accordance with ISO standards.
  • Research and Development (R&D)
    - By conducting national research projects directly in the fields of welding materials, processes, strength, and construction, the department is developing cutting-edge knowledge and technology. In addition, by establishing a welding data base system in connection with domestic and foreign research institutes such as the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials (KIMM), the department is accumulating various technologies and contributing to the development and retention of technical information related to welding.
  • Technical Guidance and Exchanges of Technology
    - Since the establishment of the welding center, the department has provided technical guidance for a number of welding-related small and medium-sized enterprises, and engaged in various technical exchanges by inviting welding experts from across the country and the world and hosting seminars and conferences.
