The purpose of the Department of Civil Engineering is to contribute to the development of the nation and society and the advancement of construction technology by operating its curricula in accordance with the demands of an information society characterized by advanced industries and technologies in accordance with the graduate school regulations, and to train advanced civil engineers and researchers with research and development (R&D) capabilities in the construction field necessary for the planning, development, and maintenance of major infrastructure.
The Department of Civil Engineering conducts research to solve problems related to the construction of infrastructure such as roads, railroads, ports, airports, power plants, water systems, and multi-purpose dams to promote the welfare of the people and improve the international competitiveness of national industrial technology. The department also undertakes research to deal with issues arising in advanced engineering fields that are rapidly increasing in demand, such as energy, transportation, environment, marine, and construction engineering.
Civil engineering majors can work for various state-owned enterprises (Korea Water Resources Corporation, Korea Expressway Corporation, Korea Rural Community Corporation, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, etc.), the central and local governments, large construction companies, technical service companies, small and medium-sized enterprises specializing in construction, and construction-related research institutes.
