Chemical engineering is an interdisciplinary field that pursues the integration and application of IT (information technology), NT (nanotechnology), BT (biotechnology), and ET (environmental/energy technology) technologies, which are the leading technologies of the future. Related industries include Korea’s key industries including petrochemicals, fine chemicals, plastics, textiles, rubber, paper, fertilizer, and cement; high-tech industries such as polymers, electronic materials, new materials, and semiconductors; as well as the fields of biotechnology, alternative energy, environmental pollution prevention technology, and process automation. Graduates from the department are pursuing careers at research institutes and government agencies as well as the private sector.
The Department of Chemical Engineering at Hanbat National University is staffed with excellent professors who are skilled and passionate about their work and who care about their students. The Department of Chemical Engineering was ranked 8th overall in student education, 8th in research grants, and 3rd in patents in the 2005 JoongAng Ilbo University Evaluation, surpassing most major universities nationwide. Since 2004, the Department of Chemical Engineering has been offering a teaching course for students who aspire to become teachers, and in 2008, the department joined the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) program to train engineering talents according to global standards. Through this program, students will be able to provide a high-quality educational environment and be presented with various employment opportunities in the future.
