Based on advanced industrial design theories and technologies, the department aims to build an interdisciplinary research base and foster designers with the expertise and creative problem-solving skills required in highly industrialized information society.
Visual design majors study and develop knowledge systems related to efficient and systematic visual language and communication through research and education in communication strategies and cultural content development related to the design culture and environment in various types of visual media, including digital media.
Industrial design majors study and develop knowledge systems related to the beautiful and creative formative languages through research and education in physical needs and mental needs arising between products and users in the living environment and cultural spaces where products are used.
Design, a discipline that arose due to industrial needs, has expanded in terms of meaning and role, not only in production and manufacturing, but also in people’s lives and cultural environment. It is now an integral part of people’s lives and culture, extending beyond fulfillment of people’s physical needs to also cater to mental needs.
Design centered on productive value has undergone an expansion in terms of scope. Design majors can enter specialized subfields such as advertising design, packaging design, editorial design, typeface design, illustration, CI/BI design, character design, etc. in the visual design field or product design, automobile design, interior design, and environmental design related to public facilities in the industrial design field. In the 21st century, design has also expanded to include image-related industries and the Internet-related web design through the development of information technology and image technology, and it is expected to further expand into the soft power fields of various media used for social commerce in line with the spread of personal media devices such as smartphones.
Therefore, graduates will be able to enter academic and industrial fields to create lifestyle and cultural content based on convergence, in connection with social sciences, business administration, aesthetics, philosophy, engineering, literature, etc. They may also work in fields related to the discovery of productive formative languages, enter highly specialized fields (divergence: a phenomenon in which only core functions remain and unnecessary functions are eliminated) as stylists, researchers, product managers, planning presenters, computer programmers, etc. involved in product development.
Cultivate the ability to develop creative designs that can be utilized in practice by correctly interpreting plans and theories on industrial design
Cultivate excellent product development capabilities to contribute to design research based on the knowledge of industrial design and related theories
