Department Overview and Objectives

At the Department of Materials Engineering, students can study and learn in-depth about semiconductor materials, metal materials, ceramic materials, nanomaterials, and other academic fields, and work in steel, ceramic and semiconductor, and electronic and magnetic components and materials industries and research. To this end, we encourage students to build diverse and extensive knowledge, and we strive to produce human resources with the qualifications to work in research and development or the industrial field with the ability to acquire cutting-edge technology and information in a self-directed manner.

The Nature of the Discipline and Its Prospects

  • The 21st century demands the cultivation of creative intellectuals with creativity and global competencies based on advanced knowledge as the industrial paradigm changes due to globalization, knowledge-based industrialization, and ubiquitous emergence. This means the cultivation of human resources who can overcome the limitations of standardized and formalized education, technology, and manpower in the mass production society and adapt, transform, and develop new industrial paradigms, which will be the core foundation of the competitiveness of nations and societies in the future. Therefore, our department strives to nurture excellent engineers with adaptability, creativity, and international thinking who can play a pivotal role in the design, development, and production of advanced material components necessary to realize a ubiquitous society in the 21st century.
  • The field of new and advanced materials is arguably the most fundamental and essential field for building national competitiveness in the 21st century. Therefore, the future prospects for materials engineering graduates are considered very bright. They can enter the fields of general materials, semiconductors, displays, advanced new materials, as well as components and systems of ubiquitous industries. They can find employment at a wide range of small and medium-sized enterprises, large corporations, startup companies, and research institutes in Korea, or go on to graduate school at our university or other leading universities in Korea or abroad to further their studies.
