Department Overview and Objectives

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering aims to cultivate advanced manpower for chemical engineering and biological engineering in strategic industries and new growth engine industries.

Focuses of Education and Research

Chemical and biological engineering is a multidisciplinary field that pursues the integration and application of chemical process technology, IT (information technology), NT (nanotechnology), BT (biotechnology), and ET (environmental/energy technology), which are the key technologies of the future.

Applications and Related Industries

Related industries include Korea’s key industries including petrochemicals, fine chemicals, plastics, textiles, rubber, paper, fertilizer, and cement; high-tech industries such as polymers, electronic materials, new materials, and semiconductors; as well as the fields of biotechnology, alternative energy, environmental pollution prevention technology, and process automation. Graduates from the department are pursuing careers at research institutes and government agencies as well as the private sector.

The Nature of the Discipline and Its Prospects

• Aims to cultivate human resources needed by industries in the chemical engineering and biotechnology fields among industries related to Daejeon’s strategic industries and Korea’s new growth engine industries
• Aims to foster human resources specialized in related fields by offering courses on design, manufacturing, and processing of chemical materials, energy materials, nanomaterials, renewable energy-related materials, and biomaterials, as well as chemical processes for production
