WiSoftLab, which started as the Database Lab at Daejeon National University of Technology in 1999, was renamed in 2007 with plans to take on new research activities in broader fields, and turned 21 years old this year. We have graduated 29 master’s students and 5 doctoral students until last year, and currently have 26 researchers, including master’s and doctoral students and undergraduates, working on advancing the science and technology of related fields. Our lab aims to research software for advanced wireless communication systems. In particular, we not only focus on theoretical research, but also put a lot of weight on software implementation technology to improve practical application. Our research focuses on two main topics. First, the Embedded Team studies embedded software, taking into consideration both hardware and software at the same time, and the application of low-power MCUs and RTOS to control MUCs. They research IoT solutions using PAN protocols such as Zigbee and Bluetooth, and practice control using open source hardware such as Arduino and RPi. Second, the Application Team carries out research on design techniques for enhanced flexibility in applications that require frequent changes in the requirements as well as excellent scalability. In addition to researching microservice architectures suitable for domains with complex requirements, the Application Team is researching IoT platforms that can selectively accommodate multiple communication protocols used in IoT environments.
Finally, based on our ongoing research, our lab aspires to become a research collective working on technologies that will enable a wide range of people to feel happy in the new era.
