The Department of Chinese Language aims to cultivate talents with excellent Chinese language proficiency in terms of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, and to cultivate talents with both humanistic literacy and creativity by providing courses that deepen their knowledge of Chinese literature, culture, politics, economics, and society from the ancient to modern times.
To cultivate professionals who can freely speak Chinese, which is becoming one of the central languages of the globalization era, become experts on the Chinese people and culture, and plan and carry out job duties related to China professionally.
This program allows students who have completed four semesters at HBNU to study at Capital Normal University in Beijing, China for four semesters and transfer the credits they have earned to HBNU. The program provides Chinese language majors with an opportunity to explore local culture and gain experiences in China, with the tuition fee at the Chinese university waived.
Through a variety of courses taught by visiting professors and native speakers from sister universities in China, students will be able to graduate with Chinese language skills that will prepare them for the workplace.
This program allows students to gain practical experience at companies founded by alumni overseas during school breaks so that they can develop entrepreneurship skills and hone their adaptability.
Since 2004, graduates have been eligible to obtain teaching certifications to work as teachers.
Many graduates from the department are working around the world. They work in China-related enterprises at home and abroad, engage in China-related work, work in tourism, media, publishing, and Chinese language teaching industries, or have started their own businesses overseas. Others have continued their studies in graduate school or went to study abroad at Chinese universities to earn degrees as Chinese specialists. In addition to finding work at large corporations, trading companies, foreign trading companies, airlines, and domestic and foreign travel agencies, graduates may find work as diplomats, college professors, bankers, middle and high school teachers, publishers, interpreters, international tourism agents, Chinese language instructors, or journalists, or start a business overseas, or work in other fields related to their major.
