  • - Proposal for predicting pig slaughter volumes based on public livestock data and utilizing supply and demand stabilization policies□ Hanbat National University (President Oh Yong-jun) announced that a team of Industrial and Management Engineering students Kim Byung-yeon, Park Jae-ha, and Lee Na-hye (enrolled in the Bachelor's-Master's integrated program)- won the Minister of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs Award (Grand Prize) on the 29th. The award was presented at the '2026 College Undergraduate and Graduate Students Livestock Distribution Idea Contest' organized by the Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation and the Korean Society for Quality Management, with their project titled, 'Proposal for Predicting Pig Slaughter Volumes Based on Public Livestock Data and Utilizing Supply and Demand Stabilization Policies○ A total of 93 teams participated in this contest, which was conducted through document screening and on-site presentation evaluations by experts from the Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation.□ The three students, who participated under the team name GU Lab -named after their advising professor, Kim Tae-gu- from the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering, received high practical value recognition. They presented a service that predicts slaughter volumes considering environment variables such as the pig-raising process, heat waves, infectious diseases, feed prices and long holidays. The system identifies causes of changes and proposes customized information to livestock distribution officials and policy managers in related departments.○ Team member Kim Byung-yeon shared his thoughts, saying, It was impressive that we could xss-create an actually helpful result for real-world operations by applying the theories learned at school. Park Jae-ha expressed, Im especially happy that we received a good evaluation from actual livestock experts.○ In addition, Team member Lee Na-hye revealed her ambition: In the future, I want to xss-create a better service through various improvements such as mid- to long-term forecasting by region.□ Park Soo-jin, President of Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation, who stood as the award presenter on this day said, It was truly impressive that many teams presented such high-level results in this contest.   • - Securing optimized design technology ensuring structural safety of high level radioactive waste disposal containers□ Hanbat National University(President Oh Yong-jun) announced that undergraduate researcher Oh Min-taek from the Department of Mechanical Engineering(advising professor Jeong Gil-eon) won the 'Outstanding Poster Award' for a study on proving the structural integrity of high-level radioactive waste disposal canisters at the 'Korean Radioactive Waste Society 2026 Spring Academic Conference' on the 28th.○ The Korean Radioactive Waste Society is an academic organization established in 2003 with the aim of technological development in the field of domestic radioactive waste management and disposal knowledge expansion through industry-university-research exchange and application to actual industries It in-depth evaluates papers presented each time selects outstanding research and awards them at the next conference.□ Undergraduate student Oh Min-taek presented a study under the theme of 'FE based Evaluation of Copper Canister Integrity for Deep Geological Disposal' at the '2025 Radioactive Waste Society Autumn Academic Conference' held last November and as a result its excellence was recognized in the field of high-level waste disposal.○ This study focused on securing structural safety while optimizing the thickness of the 'copper canister' which is the final barrier that safely isolates spent nuclear fuel deep underground In particular it enhanced the reliability of the research by strictly applying the ASME American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards which are global safety standards for mechanical equipment.□ The research team precisely analyzed the characteristics of the canister under harsh scenarios including not only the normal disposal pressure 15MPa but also the extreme ice age pressure 50MPa and the non-uniform expansion of the buffer material 7MPa through Finite Element Analysis FEA.○ As a result, it confirmed that the 50mm-thick copper canister currently being reviewed as a domestic and international standard is a very conservative design proposal and presented scientific evidence through data analysis that it can maintain sufficient structural integrity even with a thinner thickness.○ This is expected to become an important indicator to secure economic feasibility by reducing the amount of copper used within the scope of securing structural safety when designing the Korean-style disposal canister in the future.□ Department of Mechanical Engineering advising professor Jeong Gil-eon said This achievement has laid the technological foundation to simultaneously enhance the safety and economic efficiency of high-level radioactive waste permanent disposal facilities and added It is even more valuable as it is a result obtained by an undergraduate student taking the lead in conducting high-difficulty analysis research that complies with international standards.

  • Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Wins Association President Award Outstanding Paper Award and Tech Dreaming Competition Silver Prize at 2026 Korean Tunnelling and Underground Space Association Conference□ Hanbat National University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Kim Do-hyun undergraduate students and Department of Civil Engineering graduate students proved their research excellence by winning the Society President Award and Outstanding Paper Award at the '2026 Korean Tunnelling and Underground Space Association Annual General Meeting and Autumn Conference' held last April.○ The Korean Tunnelling and Underground Space Association is the largest domestic society related to tunnel engineering and underground space development and was established in 1993 to lead the development of research academic and construction technology related to the safe utilization and development of underground spaces.□ At this conference, Professor Kim Do-hyun was awarded the Society President Award in recognition of his contributions to encouraging society activities of early-career tunnel engineers and undergraduate and graduate students of related departments as the Chairman of the 16th YE Young Engineering Committee of the Korean Tunnelling and Underground Space Association and providing various opportunities and venues for taking their first steps in the society.○ In addition, Lee Pu-reun and Cho Yoon-sang in the Master's program and Ko Byung-soo in the Doctoral program advising professor Professor Kim Do-hyun who are enrolled in the graduate school presented 'A Case Analysis Study on the Settling and Cracking Patterns of Underground Structures Due to the Construction of Adjacent Structures' in the Next-Generation Tunnel Engineer session of this conference and were selected as recipients of the Outstanding Paper Award.○ The research conducted a practical study on the interval between structures that becomes denser due to the intensification of population concentration and the interactions occurring between structures as a result and derived conclusions by combining actual construction cases and refined numerical analysis research.□ Lastly, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering undergraduate students Cho Seung-ah Shin Se-min and Kim Woo-suk advising professor Kim Do-hyun received the Silver Award by receiving an outstanding evaluation among about 20 technical proposals submitted by 10 universities nationwide under the technology structure name 'Underground Circulatory Energy and Data Hub' at the 2025 Tech Dreaming Contest organized by the Korean Tunnelling and Underground Space Association.

  • - Won the Grand Prize and Excellence Prize in the Environment and Facilities category for video production□ Hanbat National University (President Oh Yong-jun) announced that undergraduate students from the Department of Buliding Systems Engineering won the Grand Prize and Excellence Prize, respectively, in the Environment and Facilities category at the '2026 Competition' hosted by the Architectural Institute of Korea Daejeon‧Sejong‧Chungnam Branch on the 10th.○ This competition was held at Namseoul University, and the theme for the Environment and Facilities category was 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Building Environment and Facility Technology for Realizing Zero-Energy Buildings'.□ First, the 'Carbon Log-out' team (students Kim Jun-hyeong and Ryu Je-chang, advised by Professor Park Byung-yong), which won the Grand Prize, produced and presented a video under the theme of 'Carbon Monitoring System'.○ This work proposed a system that monitors carbon emissions within a building in real-time based on IoT technology and naturally induces carbon reduction behaviors through student participation. It received high praise as a practical idea contributing to the realization of zero-energy buildings by combining occupant behavior changes with advanced sensor technology.○ In addition, the 'Deokmyeong-dong.mp3' team (students Kim Gyu-young, Lee Hee-chan, and Park Sang-ha, advised by Professor Im Han-sol) won the Excellence Prize for their project themed 'AI-based Personalized Active Noise Control System Using the Principle of Parametric Speakers'.□ Professor Park Byung-yong stated, "The convergence of zero-energy building realization and artificial intelligence technology is emerging as a core task in the field of building environment and plant engineering. We will support our undergraduate students in the Department of Buliding Systems Engineering to stay attentive to these contemporary trends and practice future-oriented self-development, allowing them to grow into strategic talents."

  • - Recognized for the design of wearable SERS sensors to detect cortisol in sweat using xss-metal nanostructures transferred onto electrospun fibers□ Hanbat National University (President Oh Yong-jun) announced that Lee Ye-gyu, a Master's student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Advised by Professor Ha Ji-hwan), won the Best Poster Presentation Award at 'The Society of Micro and Nano Systems 2026 Spring Conference' held at the Jeju International Convention Center (ICC) from the 25th to the 27th.○ The Society of Micro and Nano Systems is a leading academic organization in Korea established for academic advancement and technological innovation in the fields of devices, materials, processes, and systems at the micro and nano scales.○ This Spring Conference was held concurrently with 'The 28th Korean MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) Conference', and it plays a pivotal role every year in sharing and disseminating outstanding research achievements and cutting-edge nanotechnology in related fields.□ Graduate student Lee Ye-gyu was recognized for the excellence of his research presented at this conference under the theme of 'xss-metal Nanostructures transferred onto Electrospun Fibers for Wearable SERS-Based Point-of-Care Cortisol Diagnosis'.○ This study proposed a technology that can non-invasively monitor cortisol, a key biomarker indicating stress levels, in real-time in daily life by utilizing a fiber-based sensor.○ The conventional cortisol detection method, ELISA, used blood or urine samples and had limitations in point-of-care testing, such as taking 3 to 5 hours for analysis and requiring reactions to occur externally.○ To address this issue, this study designed a sensing platform capable of detecting cortisol directly from sweat by utilizing Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) and the breathable characteristics of electrospun fibers.□ The research team introduced an electrostatic induction nano-transfer printing technology to develop a process that stably integrates gold (Au) nanostructures onto flexible and highly permeable electrospun thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fibers without applying heat or pressure.○ When the proposed sensor comes into contact with sweat, the two xss-layers of nanostructures meet due to the capillary effect, forming a strong electromagnetic hotspot, and precisely measuring the Raman signal that changes according to the cortisol concentration.○ In particular, this platform is designed to enable direct diagnosis from raw sweat samples without any separate microfluidic channels or pumps, and has the advantages of excellent wearability and superior breathability by using flexible fiber materials.□ Advising Professor Ha Ji-hwan of Hanbat National University stated, "This research achievement proposes a solid foundation for real-time in vitro diagnostic healthcare monitoring that can be extended not only to the management of stress-related diseases but also to the detection of various disease-related biomarkers."

  • - A study on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of friction stir spot welded pure ta□ Hanbat National University announced that a research paper by Lee Hyo-ju, a graduate student in Professor Cho Hoon-hwis research team from the Department of Advanced Materials Engineering, has been published in 'Materials Science and Engineering A' (IF 7.0, JCR Top 8.8%), a prestigious international journal in the field of materials science.○ Lee Hyo-ju, a doctoral student in the Department of Applied Materials Engineering at the Hanbat National University Graduate School, participated as the lead author of the paper titled Microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of friction stir spot welded pure Ta. This study systematically investigates the feasibility of applying friction stir spot welding to Tantalum (Ta)a xss-metal with an extremely high melting pointwhile elucidating its microstructural evolution and mechanical properties.□ Ta has a very high melting point and is difficult to apply the existing melt bonding process, so the need to develop highly reliable bonding technology has been raised.○ To overcome these limitations, the research team applied friction stir spot welding, a solid-state joining process. They evaluated the impact on joining characteristics by controlling the tool plunge deptha key process variableand conducted a precise analysis of the changes in the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joint.○ In particular, by conducting a comparative analysis between the upper and lower regions of the joint, the study systematically identified structural changes and characteristic differences across these areas. The results confirmed an increase in hardness within the stir zone due to grain refinement, demonstrating that the overall mechanical performance of the joint was significantly enhanced.□ As a pioneering study that demonstrates the feasibility of friction stir spot welding for Tantalum (Ta), this research shows its potential as an alternative process capable of overcoming the limitations of conventional fusion welding.○ This study provides fundamental data essential for the development of joining technologies for high-melting-point xss-metals and the design of structural materials for extreme environments. It confirms the necessity of solid-state joining technology for high-melting-point xss-metals like Ta and presents the potential for microstructural refinement and improved mechanical properties through friction stir spot welding.○ Furthermore, based on these findings, this technology is expected to be widely utilized in various industrial fields, such as aerospace, energy, and extreme environment materials.

  • - Comparison of risk mitigation performance for sewer leakage-Induced sinkholes under geocell and geotextile reinforcement conditions□ Hanbat National University announced that Cho Ye-won, a masters student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering(Advisor: Professor Joo Jin-chul), received the Best Presentation Award at the '2026 Joint Conference of the Korean Society on Water Environment (KSWE) and the Korean Society of Water and Wastewater,' held at BEXCO in Busan from the 19th to the 20th.○ The joint conference of the Korean Society on Water Environment (KSWE) and the Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association (KWWA) is a leading academic event in Korea held to promote academic and technological advancements in the water environment and waterworks sectors. It features research presentations across various fields, including water treatment processes, wastewater management, the stability of water and sewage infrastructure, and the development of sustainable water conservation technologies.□ Graduate student Jo Ye-won was recognized for academic excellence in the field of water and sewage infrastructure at the conference. Her research, titled 'Comparison of Sinkhole Risk Reduction Performance Based on Sewer Leakage under Geocell and Geotextile Reinforcement Conditions,' was highly commended for its contribution to the field.○ This study was conducted to propose reinforcement strategies for mitigating the risks of ground cavities and sinkholes caused by sewer pipe leakage. Furthermore, it aimed to comparatively analyze the ground stabilization effects according to various Geocell and Geotextile reinforcement conditions.○ In addition, the study sought to elucidate how differences in reinforcement xss-location. and application methods affect leakage-induced soil loss, cavity development, and ground settlement behavior.□ The research team established experimental groups categorized into unreinforced, bottom-reinforced, and simultaneously top-and-bottom-reinforced conditions. Under simulated sewer leakage conditions, they compared soil loss volume, cavity formation patterns, settlement behavior, and the overall effectiveness of the reinforcements.○ Through this process, the study evaluated the effectiveness of combining the confinement effect of Geocells with the filtration function of Geotextiles in suppressing flow concentration and internal erosion caused by leakages.○ The experimental results demonstrated that the Geocell and Geotextile reinforcement effectively mitigated cavity development and sudden ground collapse by dispersing the leakage flow and inhibiting the loss of soil particles.○ In particular, the simultaneous top-and-bottom reinforcement condition showed the most stable behavior, confirming it as the most effective method for mitigating sinkhole risks in the ground surrounding sewer pipes.□ Professor Ju Jin-chul, the research advisor, stated, "This is a highly practical and innovative research achievement. It demonstrates that the risk of ground cavities and sinkholes caused by sewer pipe leakage can be proactively prevented by installing geosynthetics around the pipes."

In particular, a self-updating structure that transfers inference results from higher to lower xss-layers enables cost-effective normalization○ Advisor Professor Lee Sang-geum remarked, "It is highly meaningful that our undergraduate-level research, which addresses real-world industrial challenges, has led to such a prestigious award." He added, "We will continue to expand our research into AI-based intelligent systems moving forward."□ In addition, undergraduate students Choi Beom-young and Jo Seong-hwan, along with Professors Jeong Ui-rim and Kim Young-dong from the Department of Artificial Intelligence Software, received the Outstanding Paper Award in the field of AI model lightweighting for their research titled 'VA-QKD: Efficient One-Shot W2A2 Quantization using Virtual Anchors'.○ This study proposes a method for training a student model by quantizing the output of a teacher model within the quantization knowledge distillation technique, which is widely used for AI model lightweighting. The proposed method demonstrated superior performance compared to existing quantization distillation techniques in image recognition tasks.○ Professors Jeong Ui-rim and Kim Young-dong, who supervised the thesis, stated, "We are very proud and delighted to see our undergraduate students proving their excellence in various competitions." They added, "We plan to continue our research by expanding into more complex vision and language models in the future."
